MY JOURNEY
My Journey
Can meditation begin with movement?
I arrived at a point where I no longer wanted to sit down and meditate, even though I knew I felt better afterwards.
When I felt anxious, low, overwhelmed or physically unwell, sitting still made everything more noticeable.
I had meditated for years but began to avoid it. And the last thing I felt able to do was open my heart and feel love.
I needed something that supported the state I was actually in.
Walking gave me the way
The natural rhythm of walking focused my mind and being out in nature made relaxation easier. Some days, it was just: walk, breathe, find a focus, repeat.
And I felt better.
I was already catching myself and choosing a more helpful thought when I felt challenged. So I started practising those thoughts on my walks to go deeper into the process of change.
Finding feelings you can reach
As I journeyed, I often came across well-intentioned suggestions to open my heart and feel love. Yet when I experienced anxiety, overwhelm or persistent health issues, creating an elevated emotion was too big a leap.
I learned to begin with what I could feel: just a hint of peace or a tiny sense of relief - something that felt a little better than where I was.
That was enough
These early feelings became a bridge and with practise, I began to experience more uplifting emotions. I stopped feeling uneasy because I couldn’t access the big ones.
Practising in real life
Running a business, motherhood, relocating across the world and back again, and ongoing health issues formed the backdrop.
Meditation and mental rehearsal helped me navigate life and create the version of myself I wanted to be.
The Walking State Method™ took shape as I combined what had helped me most.
